On 8 February 2010 the first deep-sea vessel, the ‘Leikanger’ from Singapore, was discharged at the new quay of Broekman DistriPort. The Port of Rotterdam has invested € 13 million in the new quay, to double the terminal’s capacity.
The non-ferrous metals on board the ‘Leikanger’ were destined for Pacorini, customer of Broekman DistriPort. In total, 7,839 tonnes of aluminium were unloaded. The ‘Leikanger’ has a length of 195 metres, including four cranes with a lifting capacity of 30 tonnes each.
With the new deep-sea quay Broekman DistriPort is able to handle two vessels of 50,000 MT simultaneously with a guaranteed depth of 12,50 meters. The quay is the final part of increasing the terminal with 60.000 sqm open storage and 15.000 sqm covered storage what results in a total of 200.000 sqm warehouse capacity. With these new developments Broekman DistriPort is more capable to handle large import numbers of metals, steel and project cargoes.
Port of Rotterdam and Broekman Group are investing in handling break bulk in Rotterdam. The port of Rotterdam already had a modern All Weather Terminal at Broekman DistriPort where high quality steel can be loaded or unloaded in a covered climatized area. With the new quay Broekman DistriPort is ready for the future.
